<p>Erstellen Sie zunächst ein Terrain in Terragen, wie es im <a href="http://tgib.co.uk/2010/06/19/wie-man-raw-terrain-daten-fur-second-life-und-opensim-mit-terragen-erstellt/">ersten Tutorial</a> beschrieben wurde. Bedenken Sie, dass Terragen nur quadratische Terrains erstellt; wenn Sie also eine andere Form für ihre Regionen planen, so bedenken Sie im Voraus, welche Teile der Karte wegzulassen sind. In diesem Tutorial erstellen wir ein 4-Regionen-Terrain (ein Quadrat, welches 2 Regionen breit und 2 Regionen hoch ist). Sobald Sie ihr Terrain in Terragen erstellt haben, speichern Sie es als Terragen Terraindatei und exportieren es dann als 8-bit .RAW-Datei.</p>

<p>Öffnen Sie die Datei in Photoshop (sie öffnet sich nicht in Gimp). Beachten Sie, dass das Bild 257 x 257 Pixel groß ist. Ändern Sie die Bildgröße auf 514 x 514 Pixel (da wir ein Bild benötigen, das viermal so groß ist, für die vier Regionen). <em>Spiegeln Sie dann das Bild vertikal!</em> Dies macht einige Dinge sehr verwirrend, ist aber ein notwendiger Schritt, da Terragen die Photoshop-Dateien beim Re-Import ebenfalls vertikal spiegelt, und daher ist dieser Schritt notwendig, damit ihr Terrain richtig dargestellt wird. Bedenken Sie diesen Bezug auch, wenn Sie Ihre Terrain-Dateien benennen, da sie nun kopfüber stehen, wodurch Südwesten zu Nordwesten wird usw. Als nächstes ändern Sie die Arbeitsfläche wieder auf 257 x 257 Pixel ab und wählen Sie die Ecke, die Sie erstellen wollen. Im obigen Beispiel habe ich die südwestliche Ecke genommen (welche zum nordwestlichen Terrain wird). Speichern Sie die Datei als Photoshop .RAW-Datei ab (und nennen Sie sie, zum Beispiel, nw.raw). Gehen Sie nun einen Schritt zurück, um ihre gesamte Region wieder zurückzuholen und wiederholen Sie die Prozedur mit allen anderen Ecken des Terrains.</p>

<p>Re-importieren Sie nun diese .RAW-Dateien eine nach der anderen nach Terragen, indem Sie File &gt; Import &gt; 8 bit raw verwenden. Beachten Sie, wie bei diesem Schritt Ihr Terrain wieder ungedreht wird. Speichern Sie nun die vier Teile als Terragen Terrain-Dateien und konvertieren Sie sie in Sim .RAW-Dateien mit Bailiwick, wie im <a href="http://tgib.co.uk/2010/06/19/wie-man-raw-terrain-daten-fur-second-life-und-opensim-mit-terragen-erstellt/">vorherigen Tutorial</a> beschrieben.</p>
<p>Wie Sie bemerkt haben, kann mit dieser Prozedur nicht nur Megaregion-Terrain-Daten erzeugt werden, sondern die Terrains auch in Photoshop bearbeitet werden, was u.a. Vergrößern und Drehen ermöglicht. Denken Sie nur daran, sie zu spiegeln, bevor Sie sie speichern.</p>

<p>Nach mehreren Anfragen, die meinen <a href="http://tgib.co.uk/2010/02/21/opensim-raw-island-terrain-files/">kostenlosen Insel-Daten</a> gefolgt sind, habe ich versprochen zu erklären, wie man diese mit freien Werkzeugen herstellt. Zunächst einmal weiss ich zwar, dass  <a href="http://www.planetside.co.uk/content/view/15/27/">Terragen 2</a> bereits eine Weile erhältlich ist, aber ich verwende noch immer den Vorgänger, da ich mich mit der neuen Bedienung einfach nicht anfreunden konnte; außerdem ist für den Umfang dieses Tutorials Terragen 1 völlig ausreichend. Wir werden nicht den erweiterten Himmels- und Wassereditor verwenden, sondern nur die Rauschfilter um unser Terrain zu erstellen, und bei Bedarf den Terrain-Editor. Terragen ist eine plattformübergreifende Anwendung, aber das unbedingt erforderliche Bailiwick ist nur für Windows erhältlich, was es für Mac-Benutzer etwas umständlich, aber nicht unmöglich macht, nachdem man die Möglichkeit hat, Windows für einen gelegentlichen Seitensprung auf dem Mac zu installieren, entweder indem man das bereits installierte Bootcamp verwendet, oder eine <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine">VM</a>-Anwendung wie <a href="http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/">Fusion</a> oder <a href="http://www.parallels.com/">Parallels</a> nutzt. (Backhoe hingegen ist nur für Macs, was den Schmerz mit Bailiwick etwas lindert.)</p>

<p>Zu Beginn starten Sie Terragen. Wir werden im Moment nu einige wenige Funktionen verwenden. Öffnen sie das &#8216;landscape window&#8217; und klicken sie auf die &#8220;Generate Terrain&#8230;&#8221; Schaltfläche. Ein weiteres Fenster öffnet sich, welches Ihnen ermöglicht, Zufallsterrains zu erstellen und die Ergebnisse mit ein Paar Reglern und verschiedenen Rauschgeneratoren etwas zu beeinflussen. Spielen Sie etwas an den Einstellungen herum um sie kennen zu lernen. Für dieses Tutorial habe ich versucht, eine Insel zu erstellen, die auf eine normale Region passt. Bitte beachten Sie besonders den Regler &#8220;Size of Features&#8221;, da man die besten Resultate erzielt, wenn man ihn ganz oder fast ganz nach rechts schiebt. Dennoch bedarf es einer Menge wiederholten Klickens auf den &#8220;Generate Terrain&#8221; Knopf um endlich etwas zu erzielen, das einem zusagt.</p>

<p>Wenn Sie mit dem Erstellen Ihres Terrains fertig sind, klicken sie auf &#8220;close&#8221;. Sie können eine gerenderte Vorschau erhalten, indem sie auf den 3D Preview Button klicken und Sie können mit dem Landscape View &amp; Sculpt Fenster das Terrain bearbeiten und / oder darüber hinwegzoomen. Der grüne Punkt ist die Kamera, der rote ist der Blickpunkt. Grundsätzlich befindet sich die Kamera eine fixe Position über dem Boden und bewegt sich daher mit dem Terrain, wenn man sie bewegt. Dazu klicken Sie einfach darauf und ziehen Sie sie über das Fenster; man kann dabei sehen, wie sie über das Terrain im 3D Vorschaufenster fliegt. Um den Landschafts-Editor einzuschalten klickt man auf den &#8220;sculpting&#8221; Knopf im Landscape View &amp; Sculpt Fenster (den Knopf, der wie ein Pinsel aussieht, der grüne Farbe aufträgt). Wenn man nun mit der linken Maustaste irgendwo auf die Karte klickt, hebt man das Terrain dort an, während ein Alt-Klick (ein Linksklick mit gedrückter Alt-Taste) es absenkt. Auf diese Weise können Sie einige Änderungen vornehmen oder sogar Ihr eigenes Terrain von Grund auf selbst erstellen. Wenn man mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden ist, ist dies nun eine gute Gelegenheit, das Terrain zu Speichern, da man mit Terragen nur einen Schritt rückgängig machen kann. Zum Speichern klicken Sie auf File &gt; Save Separate &gt; Terrain&#8230; Speichern Sie es vorläufig als Terragen Terrain Datei.</p>

<p>Bitte beachten: Terragen kann aus fast jeder Bilddatei ein Terrain erstellen, in dem man die Importfunktion verwendet. Klicken Sie dazu auf File &gt; Import &gt; Terrain&#8230; und wählen Sie &#8220;Image&#8221; als Dateiformat. Die Ergebnisse sind unterschiedlich; grundätzlich gilt, dass die Bilder in Graustufen umgewandelt werden und die helleren Teile höheres Terrain darstellen als die dunkleren.</p>

<p>Gehen wir zurück zu unserer Insel. Es gibt drei Dinge, die Sie beachten müssen, um sie mit Second Life und Opensim kompatibel zu machen. Erstens ist eine Standardregion für diese Plattformen 256 x 256 Meter groß; wir müssen daher die Größe unserer Terrainkarte auf 256 auf jeder Seite einstellen. Dazu klicken Sie auf die &#8220;Size / Radius&#8221; Schaltfläche im Landscape-Fenster und tragen die Größe in der Landscape Area im Landscape Settings Fenster ein. Zweitens liegt der Wasserspiegel bei -300 Metern in Terragen, während er allgemein 20 Meter in Second Life beträgt. (Ja, Terragen arbeitet mit negativen Terrain-Höhen.) Wir müssen also das Water-Fenster öffnen und dort den Wasserstand auf 20,00 Meter ändern.<sup><a href="http://tgib.co.uk/2010/06/19/wie-man-raw-terrain-daten-fur-second-life-und-opensim-mit-terragen-erstellt/#footnote_0_3223" id="identifier_0_3223" class="footnote-link footnote-identifier-link" title="Anmerkung: Auch wenn es m&ouml;glich ist, den Wasserspiegel f&uuml;r SL-Regionen anzuheben und abzusenken sind 20 Meter ein guter Mittelwert und sollten als Anhaltspunkt genommen werden. Beachten Sie au&szlig;erdem, dass weder das Terrain, noch das Wasser in SL negative Werte annehmen kann.">1</a></sup> Schließlich wird das terrain selbst in einigen Teilen negative Werte aufweisen. Dies ist der wichtigste und auch frustrierendste Schritt, da er das gesamte Terrain wieder ruinieren kann. Leider weiß ich keinen Weg, ihn zu umgehen, also müssen wir durch. Wenn Sie die &#8220;Modify Terrain&#8221; Schaltfläche im Landscape Fenster klicken, können Sie, neben anderen Modifikatoren, die Höhenreichweite ändern. In meinem Fall reicht die kleine Insel von -48,605 bis +53,575 Meter. Tragen Sie im ersten Feld (dem Mindestwert) zumindest 0 ein und klicken Sie auf &#8220;Set Height Range&#8221;. Sie werden bemerken, dass Ihr Terrain scheinbar &#8220;größer&#8221; wird, da nun größere Teile davon über dem Wasserspiegel liegen. Um diesen Effekt zu vermeiden kann die Zahl im zweiten Feld (dem Höchstwert) vorsichtig etwas gesenkt werden, wodurch die Ränder wieder unter den Wasserspiegel sinken, was allerdings das Terrain insgesamt etwas verflacht. Auch hier hilft ein wenig Experimentieren dabei, die besten Resultate zu erzielen. Speichern Sie außerdem regelmäßig.</p>

<p>Wie kriegen wir nun unser Terrain nach Second Life? Es wäre zu einfach, wenn Terragens eingebauter RAW Export einfach die benötigten Dateien zum Hochladen nach SL für uns erstellen würde. Leider funktionieren die RAW Dateien, die auf diese Weise erstellt wurden, nicht. Wir brauchen demnach einen Konverter, der SL-kompatible RAW Dateien aus unseren Terragen Terrain Dateien erstellt. Ein Fall für Bailiwick.</p>
<p>Starten Sie es und importieren Sie ihr Terrain, in dem Sie auf File &gt; Import &gt; Terragen Terrain klicken, Ihre Terraindatei auswählen und den &#8220;Import&#8221; Knopf drücken. Die Einstellungen müssen nicht verändert werden; erstellen Sie ihre .RAW Datei einfach in dem sie auf File &gt; Save klicken. Bailiwick speichert sie automatisch als Sim Rawdatei, welche nun mit dem &gt;<a href="http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Server_Commands">terrain load</a>&lt; Befehl auf ihrer Opensimregion verwendet werden oder mit dem Region/Estate Fenster nach Second Life hochgeladen werden kann.</p>

<p>Bonus Track: Backhoe bietet einen sehr netten und benutzerfreundlichen Landschaftseditor für SL Terrains. Man kann die .RAW-Datei, die mit Bailiwick erstellt wurde, darin öffnen und praktisch alles so bearbeiten, wie man es mit SL&#8217;s Inworld-Werkzeugen auch kann, nur schneller und angenehmer.</p>
<p>Bekannte Probleme: Weder Terragen noch Bailiwick oder Backhoe bieten eine Möglichkeit, ein Terrain zu drehen, daher bedeutet &#8220;oben&#8221; immer &#8220;Norden&#8221;. Auch wenn .RAW-Dateien grundsätzlich Grafikdaten sind, konnte ich die SL-spezifischen Dateien weder in Gimp noch Photoshop öffnen, ohne sie für SL unbrauchbar zu machen. Daher kann ich im Moment dafür keine Lösung anbieten.</p>
<p>[Update 5. Juni 2010: Ein <a href="http://tgib.co.uk/2010/06/19/wie-man-megaregion-terrain-raw-dateien-fur-second-life-und-opensim-erstellt/">neues Tutorial</a> bietet nun eine Lösung für diese Problem wie auch einen Weg, übergangslose Terrains zu erstellen, die sich über mehrere Regionen erstrecken.]</p>
